Introduction

Dreaming of a magical Disney vacation but worried about the costs? Fear not! With the right planning, a trip to the happiest place on Earth can be both enchanting and budget-friendly. In this guide, we'll walk you through the essential steps that future blogs will cover to plan a Disney vacation that won’t break the bank.

This initial blog will break down the types of topics that we'll cover in future blogs, articles and guides.

If there is anything that you would like to see covered in future blogs, please let us know!

1. Choose the Right Time to Visit

Off-Peak Seasons: Traveling during off-peak times can significantly reduce costs. Consider visiting in late winter or early spring, avoiding holidays and school vacations when the parks are less crowded and prices are lower.

We've been to Disney at different points throughout the year and we will be posting a blog on the difference in the prices and the experience soon.

2. Book Accommodations Wisely

Stay Off-Site: While Disney hotels offer perks, staying off-site can be much cheaper. Look for nearby hotels or vacation rentals that provide free shuttle services to the parks.

Early / Late Reservations: Book your accommodation well in advance, or at the last minute to get the best deals.

We've been booked up 18 months in advance and we've left it until the week before our flight departs. Which is the best way to go? We'll blog on this point soon.

3. Savvy Ticket Purchasing

Multi-Day Passes: Buying multi-day passes often reduces the per-day cost significantly. Most of the time you can get a good deal on a 14 day ticket that will allow unlimited entry into any of the Disney parks and waterparks. If you're going to Florida for the sole purpose of getting as much Disney as you can for your money, this is the way to go! Avoid park-hopper tickets if you’re on a tight budget.

Authorised Resellers: Purchase tickets from authorised resellers for potential discounts. While this can be seen as a little risky, there are deals to be found. Just make sure that any reseller that you use is authorised.

4. Dining on a Dime

Bring Your Own Snacks: Pack snacks and water bottles to save on food costs inside the park. We've been doing this for years and the amount that you can save is phenomenal! By shopping at the local supermarkets you can feed your family for a fraction of the cost of a Disney Dinning Plan or buying separate meals and snacks in the parks.

Off-Peak Dining: Eating during off-peak hours can sometimes result in discounts and will usually have shorter waits.

Character Dining: If you do want a character dining experience, opt for breakfast, which is usually cheaper than lunch or dinner.

Pro Tip: Book for the latest possible breakfast slot and you'll likely still be there when the lunch buffet menu comes out. 2 for 1 dining experience!

5. Smart Souvenir Shopping

Set a Budget: Decide on a souvenir budget beforehand to avoid overspending. The amount of times we've seen a family get to the till / checkout and wince at the eye-watering cost of the 937 things that they and their kids have picked up isn't worth thinking about!

Set the budget, stick to it!

Shop Off-Site: Consider buying Disney merchandise from local stores or online, as they are often less expensive than items sold in the parks.

While some items will be exclusive to the parks, or even one park in particular (we're looking at you, awesome Animal Kingdom Spirit Jersey!), you'll find lots of quality merchandise at the local shops, including Walmart and Target. You're much more likely to find seasonal sales and discounts there too.

6. Utilize Free Entertainment

Parades and Shows: Enjoy the free parades, fireworks, and street performances included in your park admission. Stay a while longer than you were planning and take it down a notch. The parades and performances are a great opportunity to have a little downtime and eat a bit of your picnic.

Downtown Disney: Spend some time at Downtown Disney, where you can experience the Disney magic without a park ticket.

We've had some great times in Downtown Disney, with the kids being able draw and paint using easels inside the art shops, as well as seeing characters and building Lego.

7. Transportation Tips

Free Transportation: If staying on-site, use Disney’s free transportation system. If staying off-site, check if your hotel offers a free shuttle service.

Many of the smaller, independent hotels and holiday rentals offer a free or discounted shuttle for holiday makers staying in their accommodation.

Avoid Rental Cars (maybe...): Unless necessary, avoid renting a car. Parking fees at Disney parks and hotels can add up.

This is a bit of a controversial tip for us, as we always hire a car when we are in Florida. A car gives you the freedom to explore the area rather than only doing the Disney parks. If you are only in Florida for Disney, a car may not be the best idea, but if you're there to explore then a car is a must!
